Visitors to the city of Ghent who missed the remarkable exhibition of artworks in 2008 by Jo Clauwaert and Brendan Croker (We Only Look Like Fools) have a second chance to see their latest work this summer at Galerie Link.

An anarchic mix of photography on canvas, worded paintings and assemblies of one sort or another, the art on display is quick, sure-footed and slyly powerful and the embodiment of all that is good in anticosmopolitan art.

Los Angeles streets meld seamlessly with Venetian waterways, painted jigsaws from a lost childhood bubble with images of death’s heads, men of the sea do their age-old work under an unremittingly focused lens, a naked woman lies in a hotel room, showers, dries herself. Two minds, two pratices, a single set of values carry the viewer into truths s/he may not know exist.
